The breeding season for the Sarus Crane has officially begun! The Bird Conservation Society of Thailand (BCST), in collaboration with the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand (ZPO) invites you to participate in our “Sarus Crane Nest Adoption” program.

Key Objectives

1. Fundraising: To raise funds from the public to support the conservation and population recovery efforts of the Sarus Crane, managed by the Zoological Park Organization under the Royal Patronage.

2. Compensation: To compensate local farmers and landowners whose rice fields are used by Sarus Cranes as nesting and egg-laying grounds.

3. Public Engagement: To encourage public participation and awareness in the conservation of Sarus Cranes.

4. Community Incentives: To motivate local communities and landowners to protect the vital nesting, breeding, and foraging habitats of these birds.

Adoption Details & Activities

Adoption Package: 6,500 THB / year / nest (Includes a complimentary 1-year BCST membership)

This contribution covers compensation for landowners, rewards for nest informants, travel expenses for local field officers, report preparation, and administrative costs.

Program Activities:

• Annual Fundraising: Open once a year during the nesting season, allowing the public to adopt a nest and support a Sarus Crane family.

• Monthly Updates: Sponsors will receive monthly progress reports monitoring the status of their adopted nest.

• Annual Summary: A comprehensive annual report will be provided to the sponsor of each nest at the end of the season.

Note: General donations of any amount less than 6,500 THB are also highly welcomed to support the project. However, please note that partial donations will not include the monthly nest progress reports.

Expected Outcomes

1. Every surveyed and recorded Sarus Crane nest will be closely monitored and protected.

2. Landowners will receive fair compensation for leaving a portion of their harvest undisturbed, ensuring a safe space for the cranes to nest and raise their chicks.

3. The Zoological Park Organization of Thailand will receive adequate financial support to conduct crucial survey and monitoring operations.

4. Public interest and active participation in Sarus Crane conservation will be strengthened.

Project Timeline

• Annual Campaign: Fundraising takes place once a year during the nesting and breeding season (July to September).
